Obituary Condolences

Age 84, of Jeannette, PA, on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at home. Born on May 1, 1928 in Jeannette, PA, son of the late Michael and Eva Nafeli Monsour. As founder, former President and former Chairman of the Board of the Monsour Medical Foundation, Dr. Monsour provided full scholarships for 35 nurses and 31 medical students. When he was President of the SW PA Heart Association, the Monsour Medical Center undertook another program after being designated by the Institute of Health as one of 20 national research centers for Coronary risk screening. As a professional in his field, the research he initiated and supported helped in preventing and diagnosing heart disease. He was a member of St. Michael's Orthodox Church, Greensburg, was past president of the PA Heart Association, President of the International Stress Foundation and the International Society for Advanced Education, Commissioner of the Commission for the Advancement of Public Interest Organizations. Dr. Monsour was the first recipient of the Humanitarian Award from the Westmoreland County Conference for Economic Opportunity, received the Milton S. Shapp, Governor's Award for outstanding progress on the health field and the National Humanitarian Award of the Year A.D.C. Washington, D.C. He was also Past Publisher of the News Dispatch in Jeannette and a member of the National Press Club and an Executive Member of A.D.C. Washington, D.C.A longtime associate of Ralph Nader, Dr. Monsour helped establish the Commission for Advancement of Public Interest Organization. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Roy Charles Monsour; and his mother-in-law, Helen Kroll. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of thirty years, Maureen Kroll Monsour; six children, Dr. Jill Constantine of Jeannette and fiance Curtis Morgese, M. Lisa Houser and husband Michael of Ligonier, Yasmine Monsour of Santa Rosa, CA, Dr. Sophia Monsour of Albany, NY, William 'Max' J. Monsour II and Caroline Monsour, both at home; four grandchildren, Amber Ginsburg and husband Age, Joseph and Jennifer Constantine, and Cody Houser; a great-grandson, Joseph Lydinger; two brothers, Dr. Robert Monsour of Ligonier and Dr. Howard Monsour and wife Dr. Helen Monsour of Greensburg; sister-in-law, Cicely Monsour of Greensburg; father-in-law, Charles Kroll of Jeanette; brother-in-law, Barry Kroll and wife Martha of Jeannette; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Dr. Monsour in St. Michael's Orthodox Church, 1182 Ashland Street Greensburg, PA 15601, (724) 834-1311. Hours: Thursday 7-9 p.m., Friday 4-8 p.m. Funeral Service St. Michael's Orthodox Church on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 10 a.m. with the Very Reverend Archpriest John Nosal. Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg, PA. Memorial Prayers will be held in the Church 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.
