A Life Remembered. Of Pittsburgh, formerly of Indiana, PA, passed away from this life on January 11, 2013 at the age of 83. Charlie was born on July 16, 1929, in Osceola Mills, PA. He married Mary Ann Schoch on July 14, 1951 and they resided in western Pennsylvania for most of their lives. He and Mary Ann retired to central Florida for many years before returning to Pittsburgh for the past six years. Charlie attended Penn State University from 1948-1951, where he played right tackle for the football team and lettered for two years. He received his B.S. degree in 1951, and his M.S. and D.Ed. in 1965, all from Penn State University. From 1959 to 1964, he was professor of Health and Physical Education and head football coach at Slippery Rock State College. During his tenure, his teams won three PSAC Western Division championships and one state championship in 1962. In 1963, his team played in the All Sports Bowl against Northeast Oklahoma State. Charlie was inducted into the Slippery Rock Hall of Fame in 1987. For 50 years he and his players, affectionately known as Charlie's Boys, continue to reunite, share a common experience and demonstrate a lasting bond with one another. Charlie was also professor of Health and Physical Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania for twenty-three years and was chair of the department for men in the days when the department was divided. He also served as assistant football coach for many years. Charlie was also a member of the Air Force and Air National Guard, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Charlie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ann, on September 8, 2012. He is survived by seven children, all graduates of IUP, including Barbara Godlasky Staff of Madison, WI, Patricia Godlasky Zacour (Sam) of Erie, PA, Thomas Godlasky (Lisa) of Naples, FL, Lawrence Godlasky (Pat) of Hummelstown, PA, Karen Godlasky Baker (Robert) of McKees Rocks, PA; Richard Godlasky (Rebecca) of Orlando, FL; and Mary Godlasky Wojcik of Orlando, FL. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Friends and family will be received Tuesday 9am to 11:30 a.m. at the JOSPEH M. SOMMA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 5405 Steubenville Pike, Moon Run, Robinson Twp. A 12 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Church.
