Obituary Condolences

Age 79 of Gibsonia, died peacefully on Monday, January 28, 2013. She is survived by her husband of 49 and a half years, Robert J. Masterson. Beloved mother of Kathleen Masterson, Gloria Leous (Jim), Mary Masterson and Robert, Jr. (Heather); and loving grandmother to Jack, Kate, and Patrick Leous, Áine Byrne, and Ruby Masterson; also survived by a sister, Mary Ellen Masterson (Murphy); and many nieces and nephews. Raised in Detroit, Michigan, Kay graduated from the University of Michigan, with a B.S. in Design and completed post-baccalaureate training at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Medical Illustration. After completing her education, she worked in St. Louis, Missouri, with noted vascular surgeon Dr. Falls B. Hershey, illustrating and collaborating on numerous medical publications, including the Atlas of Vascular Surgery. She also illustrated the Atlas of Hernia Repair by Dr. Carl H. Calman and Methods of Dissection by Drs. Nicholas Mizeres and Ernest Gardner. After her marriage, Kay continued to do free-lance medical illustrations for many years. She had a life-long love of art and drawing, and ceramics, sharing her talent with family and friends. Kay dedicated her life to providing a loving, nurturing home and taking care of her family. Her absence is deeply felt by all who were blessed to know her. A celebration of Kay's life will be held at the Northern Tier Regional Library on Sunday, February 17, 2013 starting at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Northern Tier Regional Library, 4015 Dickey Road, Gibsonia, PA 15044.
