DONATELLI MICHAEL W.
Age 45, of Indiana, PA, died Sunday, February 10, 2013 as a result of injuries incurred in a helicopter crash near Los Angeles, CA. He was born in 1967 in Pittsburgh, to William A. and Mary Ann Tyson Donatelli. Michael was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux R.C. Church, Indiana, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, the YMCA, the Special Forces Assoc., and the 75th Ranger Regiment Assoc. He was a Master Sgt retired and spent 23 years in the US Army as a Special Forces "Green Beret" and Army Ranger. Mike was a highly decorated combat veteran being awarded the Legion of Merit. Mike's accomplishments include earning Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, Combat Infantryman's Badge, and numerous foreign jump wings. Michael was a USA certified boxing coach, and worked as a boxing coach at IUP and the local boxing club. He won a Bronze Medal in boxing at the Junior Olympics in 1984 at Lake Placid, NY. Michael is survived by his wife Grisel "Gigi" Donatelli, Indiana; five children, Fernando, Anthony, Amanda, Sofia, Domenic; one granddaughter, Nicole; his parents of Indiana; one brother and one sister, Anthony Donatelli and wife Alicia, Indiana; Anna Marie Donatelli, Pittsburgh; two nieces and one nephew, Bella, Angelina, and Juliano. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Anthony and Anna Donatelli, and his maternal grandparents William Tyson and Marie Tyson Mapes. Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the BOWSER-MINICH FUNERAL HOME, Indiana. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard of Clairvaux R.C. Church, Indiana, with the Rev. Fr. William Kiel the celebrant. Interment will be made in the St. Bernard Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be provided by the VFW Post #1989.
