Age 88, of Tampa FL, formerly Duquesne, on May 4, 2013 at his home in Florida. He was born August 28, 1924 in Glendale WV, son of the late Jack and Mary (Baranik) Samochin. He was retired from US Steel Homestead Works with 45 years of service where he worked very hard to provide a good home for his family. He proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII where he was based on the Aircraft Carrier USS Mission Bay. He was a life time member of VFW Post #188. He was a Pitt Football season ticket holder since the early 1950s. He traveled to every away game since the 1970s and was a member of the Pitt Golden Panthers. He was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing meals on Sundays and holidays for family and friends. He also had a love for music, especially Russian, Serbian Folk, Big Band music, and Mariachi. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to the late Rose Marie (Mrvos) Samochin; father of Raymond (Rosemary "Tam") Samochin of Tampa FL and Nadine (Walter Jr.) Danchenka of Houston TX; grandfather of Zachary and Alex Samochin, Anastasia (Travis) Baker and Walter Danchenka III; cousin of Michael (Patty) Kandacer of Elizabeth; brother of the late Nicholas Robert Samochin. Visitation on Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the MALOY- SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME 915 Kennedy Ave., Duquesne 412-466-3300. Funeral Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Gregory Russian Orthodox Church, Homestead, with Rev. Stephen Shuga officiating. Burial with military honors in McKeesport-Versailles Mausoleum.
