1925 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
88, of Irwin, on Mon., Aug. 12, 2013 in the Redstone Highlands Greensburg. Born May 6, 1925 in Clairidge, a daughter of the late Russell and Rose Zahrobsky Collie. Rose Mary was a lifelong educator and dietician starting her career at Penn Township High School as a Home Economics Teacher and advancing to Penn State University as a Professor and concluded her career as Chief, Program Improvement, Research and Development Branch Division of Vocational Technical Education for Maryland State Department of Education. Rose Mary was a 1942 graduate of Norwin High School. In 1945 she received her B.S. from Indiana University, Indiana, PA. In 1950 she received her M.S. from Carnegie Mellon Institute, Pittsburgh; in 1960 she received her M. ED. from Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA; in 1968 she received her Ed. D. from Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA; in 1975 she received her PhD. from Johns Hopkins University of Baltimore. Rose Mary was a member and past Board Member of the First United Methodist Church in Irwin. She volunteered at the Norwin Public Library, and was a member of the Norwin Art League and the Red Hats of Irwin. Rose Mary was very committed to her family and enjoyed reading. Loving sister to Russell (Olga) Collie of North Huntingdon, Patricia Kooser (Frank) Wall of Irwin with whom Rose Mary resided; nieces and nephews, Marianne Collie (Matt) Branigan, Cindy Collie (Ray) Williams, Jill Collie (David) Fink, Nancy Collie (Chris) DelSignore, John (Tina) Kooser, Katy Kooser (George) Skaryak; 11 great-nieces and nephews and two great-great -nieces. Friends will be received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the J.F. OTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 504 Oak Street, Irwin. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thurs. in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. David S. Lake, her Pastor officiating. Interment will follow in the Irwin Union Cemetery North Huntingdon. Rose Mary's family wishes to thank the Medi Hospice and the staff, certified nursing assistants and nurses of Redstone Highlands for their compassionate care and support they extended to Rose Mary during her stay there. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 310 Oak S., Irwin, PA 15642 or the Norwin Public Library, 100 Caruthers Ln.
