Dr. Barbara Bounds Blackstone was called home for eternity on Thursday, October 31, 2013, after a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. She had celebrated her 84th birthday with a gathering of family and friends on Sunday, October 27, 2013. Barbara was born to the late Clyde and Helen Bounds in Windber, Pa., in 1929. She received degrees from Allegheny College, the University of Iowa and the University of Pittsburgh. She was a certified speech pathologist and taught Communications at Slippery Rock University for 34 years until age 75. She was a resident of Cranberry Township since 1958 and was a long-time member of Salem United Methodist Church in Wexford. She traveled to over 45 different countries on six continents in her passion for learning more about people throughout the world, caring about justice for all, and sharing that understanding with others. Barbara leaves a lasting legacy of hospitality, generosity, lifelong learning, and risk-taking faith to her four children, Carlen, Franklin III (Alison), Martha (Bob Boyle), and Rodney, and her three grandchildren, Kent, Mitch and Mei-Ling. She is also survived by her sister, Suzanne (John D.) Kinard of Glenside, PA, and many others in her extended family. Barbara's family will welcome visitors from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, November 15, 2013 at the GLENN - KILDOO FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 130 Wisconsin Avenue, Cranberry Twp., PA 16066.
