91, formerly of Oakmont, died Saturday, February 15, 2014, after a brief illness. Preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Anna Juanita Plamp Bland; and his four older sisters. Mr. Bland was a World War II veteran, worked for years at Harmar Coal, then worked as "Hardware Bill" at Lane's Hardware in Oakmont. Survived by his two daughters, Nora (Dalton) Starnes of Hummelstown, PA and Sherrie (Donald) Koenig of Canfield, Ohio; his granddaughter, Emily (Dr. Jonathan) Minhovets of Southampton, New York; and numerous nieces and nephews in Western PA. Friends and relatives will be received on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, from 4-8 p.m. at the BURKET - TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., 421 Allegheny Avenue, Oakmont. Funeral and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to the Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org.
