JOSEPH MICHAEL, Jr.
Age 79, of Lower Burrell, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, May 6, 2014. Born February 7, 1935, in New Kensington, to the late Joseph, Sr. and Anna Baron Hakos. He was a longtime resident of Lower Burrell, and was a US Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Hakos retired from the Heckett Division of Harsco Corporation. Previously, he was a crane operator at the Brackenridge operation of Allegheny Ludlum from 1973 until 1996. He was a member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church of New Kensington and the Brackenridge American Legion. He enjoyed working on cars and was a private pilot for 25 years. Survivors include his daughter, Sandra L. (Steven) Bates of Natrona Heights; brother, William (Barbara) Hakos of Whitestone, Virginia and his companion, Barbara J. Kubiak. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Constance L. Fassett Hakos, who died February 25, 2004; and his daughter, Tammy Hakos Decker, who died in 1986. Viewing will be 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014, in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. Burial with military honors accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard following in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Lower Burrell.
