EUGENIA "GENA" MARIA
Formerly of Brentwood, PA and Ocean City, NJ, passed away while in hospice care on Monday, August 31, 2015, at the age of 61. Daughter of Kathryn and the late Sidney A. Porto; sister of James, Robert, Casey, and Teddy (Al Tucker) Porto, Cindy (Tony) McKay; and beloved aunt to several nephews, nieces, great- nephews and great-nieces. Gena earned her Ph.D. in Philosophy at Temple University and dedicated her life to teaching and lecturing at the college level. Specializing in Social, Political and Medical Philosophies, she traveled frequently to Cuba and by invitation to China. She received Distinguished Fellowship awards and grants and was recognized in the International Who's Who of Intellectuals. Throughout her life, Gena espoused the tenants of her philosophical beliefs with a strong will, a brilliant mind, an intense passion and a quick wit. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 11, 2015, from 3 p.m. until the 7 p.m. service at WEDDELL-AJAK FUNERAL HOME, 100 Center Ave., Aspinwall. In lieu of flowers, donations to a scholarship fund, library or educational cause of your choice would be a tribute to her "love of wisdom," which she acknowledged the study of philosophy to be.

My deepest sympathy & empathy to the Porto family for the loss of Gena. I remember her kind and sweet spirit. Keeping all of you in my prayers for the comfort of rich memories and the sustenance and support from dear friends and family as you find your way through this difficult time.
