GLEN ROGER JOHNSON Obituary
JOHNSON GLEN ROGER
Glen Roger, beloved husband of Lavonne Corley Johnson, died peacefully on Monday, August 1, 2016, at his home in Marco Island, FL. He was 87 years old. Glen was born and raised in Lake Lillian, MN, on the family farm which still operates to this day. He studied at Gustavus Adolphus College and the Minnesota School of Business. Early on, he founded the Lake Lillian Crier in his hometown. His exceptional sense of business led him to a position as Assistant Secretary of the United States Treasury under President L.B. Johnson and he later held a long career as V.P. of Federated Securities Corp. in Pittsburgh, PA. His philanthropy supported a variety of artistic, educational, and religious programs, including the Johnson Institute for Responsible Leadership at the University of Pittsburgh, the Con Spirito music series at Thiel College, environmental studies at Gustavus Adolphus, and scholarships at Florida Gulf Coast University. Glen enjoyed many summers visiting Chautauqua, NY with his grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, skeet shooter, car enthusiast, golfer, Pittsburgh sports fan, and poker player. Later in life, he published his memoir, "A Matter of Trust: Taking a $2 Stock to $140,000." He will be remembered especially for his incredible work ethic, his kind and encouraging attitude, and his endless devotion to his family. Glen is survived by his wife, Lavonne; his daughter, Vicki Zaneis and her husband, Dean; his daughter-in-law, Sheila Johnson and her partner, Kevin; his son-in-law, Miles Wallace; his grandchildren and their spouses, Kristianna (Joshua) Cucinella, Katelyn (Eliot) Hungrecker, Ariana (Seth) Patton, Kora Johnson, Kari Johnson, and Aidan Wallace; and his great-grandchildren, David, Conor, and Noah Hungrecker. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Oscar Johnson; his close cousin/companion, Martin "Keno" Johnson; his son, David Johnson; and his daughter, Lori Wallace. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 615 Grant Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219, followed by entombment in the First Lutheran Church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made in Glen's honor to First Lutheran Church, or to the Johnson Institute for Responsible Leadership, 3917 Wesley W. Posvar Hall, Pittsburgh, PA 15260, or to Marco Lutheran Church, 525 North Collier Blvd., Marco Island, FL 34145.
