MARTIN, Esq.
Martin Hamburger, Esq. passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 19, 2017. He was 89 years old. Dad was born in Braunschweig, Germany. His family fled Germany in 1939 with the assistance of the Aaron and Bischoff Families. Dad arrived in Pittsburgh in September 1, 1939. Martin is survived by his sons, Jonathan, David (Iris), and his former wife, Gissa. Martin was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Edie Hamburger Blattner. Dad loved his family and friends, Classical Music and Tennis. Martin graduated from Taylor Allderdice '46, Oberlin College '49 and Yale Law School '52. Martin was accepted into the PA Bar in 1952 and practiced law for the next 55 years. Dad was Assistant City Solicitor during Mayor Barr's administration. Martin did arbitration, and worked on the National Labor Relations Board. Dad will be missed by his friends and family. Services at RALPH SCHUGAR CHAPEL, INC., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. Visitation one and one half hour prior to services (10 - 11:30 a.m.). Interment West View Cemetery of Rodef Shalom Congregation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local chapter of the ACLU.

Condolences to the Hamburger Family. I met Marty when I worked for the Holocaust Center in Pittsburgh. A sweet, kind man. May his memory forever be a blessing.

So sorry to read of Marty's passing and all of my sympathy with his family. Marty was one of a kind. My wIfe Susan and I knew him for 40 years and this gentle, warm man made an immediate impression on everyone lucky enough to have known him. I have met some courteous and likable people but none more than Marty. Just looking at his photo again brings a smile. We will miss him.
