KELNER STEPHEN PAUL, SR.|
Of Charlotte, died Friday, October 26, 2007, at his residence. Born to Stephen and Sarah Kelner, in Pittsburgh, PA on November 10, 1937, he earned his bachelor's degree from Duquesne University and did graduate work at the University of North Carolina, NC State University, Clemson, and the University of Wisconsin. He began his career as a teacher and followed that an extensive stint in advertising, including positions at Warner Lambert and J. Walter Thompson advertising agencies. He went on to work in management at R.L. Polk, Texize Chemicals, and Haynes Corporation. Later he spent over twenty years as an award-winning manager for the Civil Engineering Department of Mecklenburg County. His hobbies included boating, golf, and watching sports. He is survived by children Stephen P. Kelner, Jr. of Malden, MA; William W. Kelner of Birmingham, AL; D'Arcy K. Klappenbach of Atlanta, GA; Kathleen W. Kelner of Atlanta, GA; and Tamsin K. Euart of Atlanta, GA.; and by nine grandchildren: Will, Maggie, Valerie, Ryan, Sean, Riley, Kate, Thomas, and Jack. Services will be held at eleven o'clock in the morning of November 7 at McEWEN FUNERAL SERVICE PINEVILLE CHAPEL 10500 Park Road. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be sent to the YMCA.
