He drove school bus the last two years of high school.
He joined the U.S. Navy at age 18, serving at different stations until he was assigned to a landing ship, where he remained until the end of World War II.
David married Ruth Ricks on Dec. 19, 1947, in the Idaho Falls Temple. He later built a beautiful home in Idaho Falls, where they raised their three children: Linda, David and Kenda. They then moved to Shelley, where they have had wonderful friends and neighbors.
David worked at a potato warehouse, Nelson-Ricks Creamery and as a carpenter until he started work at the AEC Materials Testing Reactor, which is now known as INL. He worked there as a security guard for 371/2 years.
David was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many different capacities. He loved the Scouting program and served eight years as a Scoutmaster and was an assistant Scoutmaster at the National Jamboree in Farragut, Idaho. He was an Eagle Scout and later received the Silver Beaver, which is the highest Scouting award.
David and Ruth were called to the San Antonio, Texas, mission and served in the Marble Falls area. They loved it and made many friends there. They also served as officiators in the Idaho Falls Temple.
His hobbies were camping, fishing, hunting, working with wood, building black powder guns and making clocks. He liked to work with his hands and was very good at any project he took on.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his oldest daughter, Linda Lee Stewart Duncan; and his siblings, Andrew Emanuel, Alberta, Verda, Mary, Olive and Karl George.
