Cleo Steele Obituary

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Cleo Robinson Steele, 91, of Ammon, and a longtime Iona resident, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at The Gables of Ammon surrounded by her family. She was under the care of Aspen Home Health & Hospice.

Cleo was born May 10, 1921, in Iona to Grant Elijah Robinson and Sarah Stanger Robinson. She grew up and attended schools in Iona and graduated from Iona High School.

On Aug. 31, 1939, she married Gordon R. Steele in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Following their marriage, they made their home in Iona, where they raised their four sons, Roger, Alan, Gordon Ray and Dale. Cleo was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She also worked for Dr. Packard and in the lab at Rogers Brothers Processing Plant. Gordon passed away Oct. 6, 2001.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cleo served in many positions over the years, including junior Sunday school teacher, in the presidency of the Primary, in the Young Women, Relief Society and many others. She enjoyed camping, baking and family gatherings. Cleo was an excellent cook, and her home always welcomed her family with wonderful smells from the kitchen.

Cleo is survived by her sons, Roger R. (Peggy) Steele of Shelley, Alan R. (Connie) Steele of Idaho Falls, Gordon Ray (Debbie Sanders) Steele of Ammon and Dale R. (Janet) Steele of Iona; sister, LuDene R. Johnson of Idaho Falls; brother, Donald Robinson of St. George, Utah; brother-in-law, Jack (Carol) Steele of Murray, Utah; 10 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grant and Sarah Robinson; a sister, Dorothy Clayton; an infant sister, Lucille Robinson; and two brothers, Alfred "AJ" Robinson and Grant Elbert "Eb" Robinson.

The family would like to express special thanks to the med techs at The Gables who helped care for Cleo, and to Verla and Monica of Aspen Hospice for their care and compassion in her final days.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Ammon LDS 26th Ward, 1100 S. Tiebreaker Drive in Ammon, with Bishop Rod Roberts officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Iona Cemetery.
