Peter Alfred Anderson Sr., 77, of Idaho Falls, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014, after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma cancer at Life Care Center.
Peter Alfred Anderson Sr. was born Nov. 22, 1936, in the rock house across from the old county farm on the Sugar Factory Road in Kimberly, Idaho. He was the second child of Leslie Anderson and Alice Rose Littler Anderson. His love of farming began as he worked alongside his father on the family farm. He attended and graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1954.
He met and married the love of his life, Edith Sadie Ledbetter, on June 6, 1958, in Kimberly, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 28, 1962.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings, including assistant ward clerk, and especially enjoyed working with the stake missionaries as a Seventy and High Priest.
In the fall of 1968, they purchased a farm in Monteview, Idaho, and moved their family there in the spring of 1969. He continued to farm until August 1999, when he sold the farm and moved to Idaho Falls, where they still reside.
Because of his love of the outdoors and his hard-work ethic, he continued to work for many years after selling the farm. He found enjoyment in helping others and treasured the many friendships he made during his employment at Albertsons and Wal-Mart.
He loved his family very much and attended many of their activities and gatherings. He collected coins, metal coin banks, stamps, dominoes and pocket knives. Some of his greatest pleasures were putting a puzzle together and reading anything about history.
Survivors are his wife, Sadie Anderson of Idaho Falls; daughters, Tammy Lynn (John) Ellis of Idaho Falls, Julie Kay (Bryan) Holdaway of Monteview, Lisa Gayle (Karl Ray) Tomlinson of Cascade, Idaho, and Leslie Carol (Michael) Evans of Idaho Falls; sons, Patrick Todd (Cindy) Anderson of Salt Lake City and Andrew Joel (Rachel) Anderson of Twin Falls, Idaho; brother, James Edward (Lynda) Anderson of Washington; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Alice Anderson; his parents-in-law, Emmett and Cleo Ledbetter; a son, Peter Alfred Anderson Jr.; two brothers, Leslie Eugene Anderson and his wife Gloria; and John Henry Anderson and his wife, Shannon; a granddaughter, Lindy Nicole Evans; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
The family wants to give a special thanks to all those wonderful individuals who showed love and kindness during his battle with cancer: Dr. Shull, Dr. Poulter, Dr. Poston and Dr. Travis; and to all the doctors, nurses and staff at EIRMC, Advanced Home Health and Life Care Center.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Saturday prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in West Jefferson Memorial Cemetery in Terreton.
