Alice Marie Lauritzen was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on Feb. 3, 1934. She passed away peacefully at home in Las Vegas, Nev., on Jan. 10, 2013.
Marie was the oldest of 13 children born to Marion and Alice Cheney. Marie graduated with a bachelor's degree from Utah State University and began her career as a school teacher. On Dec. 21, 1962, Marie married Elden Lynn Lauritzen. They have five children: Linda, Andrea, DaLea, LaGrand, and Darwin. Marie lived most of her life in Rexburg, Idaho, where she raised her family and enjoyed hobbies such as playing the accordion, piano and organ; sewing; gardening; and baking.
She had a successful career as a school teacher in Madison County. She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a full-time mission in the East Central States Mission and later, after retirement, as a Family History Missionary in Idaho Falls.
In July 2010, Marie moved in with her daughter, DaLea, and her family, in Las Vegas.
Marie is survived by her 12 siblings and their spouses; her five children; two daughters-in-law; a son-in-law; 19 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Archer/Sunnydell LDS church, 201 W. 8000 South. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Sutton Cemetery.
