Arvin Homer Rhoades

Arvin Rhoades, 83, of Bone, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2013, peacefully, of natural causes in Idaho Falls.

Arvin was born Oct. 6, 1929, in Idaho Falls, to Rosella Augusta Johnson Rhoades and Ezra Pritchard Rhoades. Arvin attended local schools through the eighth grade.

Arvin married his sweetheart, Colleen Luella Nelson, on March 22, 1947, in Bonneville County. They had six children. They lived in several cities, including Cobalt, Driggs, Victor and Idaho Falls, before settling in their favorite place on their ranch in Bone, Idaho.

Arvin's work career included mining in Cobalt, Idaho, and helping construct several dams in the Northwest. He was also a hod carrier and, finally, started Rhoades Drywall and operated it for 40 years. He raised cattle in Bone.

Arvin's favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing and taking drives in the backcountry with his best friend and sweetheart, Colleen. He also loved spending time at his ranch in Bone. He loved his boxer dogs; horses, Lady and Ginger; and Mom's poodle, Augie.

Arvin is survived by six children: daughter, Christine (John) Wold of Idaho Falls, and sons, David (Brenda) Rhoades Dale Rhoades Doug (Donna) Rhoades, Dennis (Sharon) Rhoades, and Dee Rhoades, all of Idaho Falls; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, August and Sharl Rhoades; and two sisters, Faye Whitney and Golda Burke, all of Idaho Falls.

Arvin was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen; his parents, Ezra and Rosella Rhoades; sister, Martha Lane; and brothers, Karl, Don, and Leroy Rhoades.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a favorite or the Humane Society.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at Wood Funeral Home. A viewing for friends and family will be from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and for one hour prior to services Wednesday, both at the funeral home. He will be cremated and his ashes spread with Colleen's at their private memorial setting on their ranch in Bone, Idaho, at a later date.
