Cathryn Howell

Cathryn Sue Howell, 44, passed away from complications of leukemia on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Ariz.

She was born Feb. 7, 1968, in Long Beach, Calif., to Charles and Lorna Howell. Cathy, or "Cate" as she was known to many of her friends, grew up in Idaho Falls. She graduated from Bonneville High School in 1986. After high school, she attended The Art Institute in Seattle.

At the time of her passing, Cathy was living in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Cathy is survived by her spouse, Daniel Cronister of Las Vegas; her son, Steven Farnes; her sister, Kellie (Jeff) Petersen; a niece, Amanda Petersen; a nephew, Nicholas Petersen; and her parents, Chuck and Lorna Howell, all of Idaho Falls.

Cathy was an energetic, loving person, always open to new adventure. She was also very compassionate, touching the lives of many, many people, and often those she reached out to were the people society neglected or marginalized. In her college dorm, she hung out on the floor assigned to the hearing impaired to "better understand their needs and challenges," she said.

Her adventuresome spirit took her and Steven to Connecticut, where she met Daniel. They lived there for eight years, and then the family moved to Las Vegas, where they lived for 10 years.

Cathy was captured by the beauty of nature; particularly rocks, crystals and gems. She passed this beauty on to others through a self-owned business, which featured her custom made jewelry.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at St. John Lutheran Church, 290 Seventh St. in Idaho Falls. Also, the family would like to invite those who wish to share memories of Cathy to visit from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. that same evening at Papa Tom's Pizza, 1830 S. Woodruff Ave. in Idaho Falls.

The family thanks her good friend, Jennifer, and all the others that supported and loved her in life, and the staff at Banner Medical Center that struggled so hard to save her.

Those wishing to make memorial donations are asked to consider The Ruth House, 3130 S. Yellowstone Highway, Idaho Falls, ID 83402; or The , P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
