Elizabeth Freilich Dockstader, 83, of Ammon, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at the Gables of Ammon due to natural causes. She was under the care of Aspen Home Health & Hospice.
Elizabeth was born in Glendive, Mont., Nov. 12, 1930, to George and Barbara Freilich. She grew up and attended schools in Glendive, graduating from Dawson High School.
While working as a bookkeeper in Idaho Falls, she met Dale Lavern Dockstader. They were married Nov. 11, 1961, in Coeur d'Alene. Upon her marriage to Dale, a widower, Elizabeth became an instant stepmother to his six children, Patricia, Janette, Diane, Rod, Gay Lynne and Kevin. Dale and Elizabeth made their home in Idaho Falls, but also spent a lot of time at the family cabin in Island Park.
She was a diligent correspondent, keeping in touch with her extended family, as well as writing often to her son, Kevin, when he was in the military in Germany. Elizabeth loved to laugh, and had quite a sense of humor. After retiring, she spent much of her time in Island Park, where she enjoyed hosting her grandchildren for frequent stays during winter vacations and throughout the summer. She was very accommodating to the grandkids, sometimes cooking as many different meals as there were children, to give each child his or her own special treat. Elizabeth was an animal lover, who always had at least a couple pets she could spoil.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed quilting, crossword puzzles and many other crafts.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Gene) Cushman of Idaho Falls, Janette Ward and Diane (Gil, deceased) Humberger of Twin Falls, and Gaye Lynne (Jim) Gayley of Middleton; and sons, Rod (Terry) Dockstader of Swan Valley and Kevin (Rosi) Dockstader of Idaho Falls; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; all of her siblings; and her husband, Dale.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave. in Idaho Falls, with Jon Wood officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, prior to services at the funeral home.
