Evelyn Herndon, 69, passed away Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
She was born March 4, 1944, in Holland, the daughter of Leonard and Louise Vaulk Weeda. After moving from Holland to Canada, where she spent her earlier years, Evelyn's family moved to Lakewood, Calif., where she attended and graduated from Valley Christian High School in Cerritos.
Evelyn married Harold Raymond Herndon on April 8, 1978, at the Emmanuel Reform Church in Paramount. He preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 2013.
She worked for a time for the Bank of America until being able to enjoy raising her children at home. She was a member of the Emmanuel Reformed Church and an active member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church, helping with Vacation Bible School and in various small church groups. Evelyn loved quilting, sewing, reading and watching movies; and most dear to her heart, spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was loving and a godly, caring mother, wife and the matriarch of the Herndon family who will forever be missed.
Survivors include six sons, John (Cheryl) De Koekkoek of Boise, James (Tammy) De Koekkoek and Raymond (Alisha) Herndon, both of Idaho Falls, Timothy (Patti) De Koekkoek and Harold (Amber) Herndon, both of Lakewood, Calif., and Steven De Koekkoek of Leota, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 2345 W. Broadway in Idaho Falls, with Pastor Matthew Swenson officiating. Burial will follow in New Sweden Cemetery. A viewing for family and friends will be held for one hour Monday prior to services at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls.
