Janet Pugh

Janet Marie Bowen Pugh, 74, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, peacefully in her home in Salmon, Idaho.

Janet Marie Bowen Pugh was born Jan. 23, 1939, in Salmon to parents Pearl and Maxine Mann Bowen. She attended all of her school years in Salmon, graduating from Salmon High School in May 1957.

She served proudly in the U.S. Navy from March 1961 to March 1965. She attained the rank of petty officer third class. Upon her honorable discharge March 15, 1965, the following day, March 16, 1965, she married her husband, Larry L. Pugh of Salt Lake City, at the North Island Naval Air Station in Coronado, Calif.

She was a passionate rock hound, always on the lookout for the next agate. Along with her family members, she would go agate hunting at the drop of a hat. Janet was an accomplished crafts person. She made quilts, afghans and doll dresses; some of which won awards at the county fair. She was well-known for her home-canned jams, jellies and syrups, especially her choke cherry syrup.

Earlier in life, she made custom cakes for weddings and other events for people. She was well-known in Salmon for her cake decorating skills.

For her children, she did everything she could to be a great mom to them, participating in Cub Scouting, school events and other things for which her children will remember her with fondness and love.

To her husband, she was his best friend and partner in life. She and her husband made frequent trips to Jackpot, Nev., to party with each other and with family members. Many of their anniversaries were celebrated there, and with their anniversary being the day before St. Patrick's Day, they would celebrate and party that day as well.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Larry L. Pugh; sons, Adam M. (Dede) Pugh of Reno, Nev., and Gregory L. Pugh of Portland, Ore.; daughter, Julie M. Pugh of Winnemucca, Nev.; grandson, Christopher A. (Jamie) Pugh of Reno, Nev.; granddaughter, Ashley M. Pugh of the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea; brothers, Paul Bowen, Jess Bowen and Frank (Terry) Bowen, all of Salmon, Robert (Bobbie) Bowen of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Ronnie (Bonnie) Bowen of Priest River, Idaho; sisters, Anita Bowen, Marlene (Bob) Bowen-Grissett and Ethel Strickland of Salmon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Alan L. Pugh; parents, Pearl and Maxine Bowen; brothers, Darril, Mike and Terry; and sister-in-law Donna Bowen.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Jones & Casey Funeral Home in Salmon, with burial in Salmon Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Idaho Honor Guard and American Legion Lloyd Shaw Post 67. Arrangements are under the care of Jones & Casey Funeral Home of Salmon.
