Kendra Scoresby, 58, of Iona, Idaho, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Kendra was born July 9, 1955, in Provo, Utah, to Charles Burdell Merrell and Nyal Merrell. She grew up and attended schools in Utah and Virginia and graduated from Falls Church High School. She earned an associate's degree from Ricks College in Rexburg; attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah; and graduated from Hollywood Beauty College in Provo, Utah, in 1981.
On June 20, 1981, she married Ralph W. Scoresby in the Provo, Utah, LDS Temple. Throughout the years, Kendra lived in Utah, Virginia, South and Central America, and Idaho. She also served an LDS mission in Spain from 1978-1979. Kendra served as PTA president and treasurer at Silver Hills Elementary School in Kearns, Utah, where she also taught English to immigrant children. She had worked as a home health aide, and was a secretary in a medical office at the time of her death.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings, including in the Primary, Relief Society, Young Women's organization, and as a librarian. She enjoyed reading, family events, and skyping with her family.
Kendra is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Ralph Scoresby; daughter, Janalee (Dan) Bowen and grandson Kade Bowen; son, Jared Scoresby; daughter, Shayann (Dalan) Guthrie; mother, Nyal Merrell; brother, Durk (Joan) Merrell; sister, Jackie (Chad) Neibaur; brother, Blair (Liz) Merrell; brother, Stuart Merrell; brother, Quinn (Lachell) Merrell; and brother, Barry (Annette) Merrell.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Burdell Merrell; and her brother, Kevin Merrell.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Iona LDS 1st Ward, 5169 E. Denning Ave., with Bishop Randy Smith officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday before services at the church. Burial will be in Iona Cemetery.
