Konra Kay Withers, 69, of Rexburg, passed away peacefully Monday, April 7, 2014, in her home after succumbing to cancer. Konra's positive outlook and service-oriented life had an impacton everyone she encountered.
She was born July 20, 1944, in Idaho Falls. She is the daughter of Mada Weber and William Burton Smead.
She was raised in Rexburg. The oldest of three children, she was the apple of her father's eye and the big sister to her two younger brothers, Bill and Bob Smead. She was enrolled in the Madison School district throughout elementary, junior high and high school, but graduated from the St. Paul's girl school in Walla Walla, Wash., with honors. Konra went on to attend the University of Colorado, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in history.
Upon returning to Rexburg, she began teaching second grade in the Sugar-Salem School District.
She married Allen Yale Peterson in 1965 and had four children: Allen David Peterson, Tara Kay Peterson, Aaron Yale Peterson and Joanna Lee Peterson. Late in 1978, they divorced and on Jan. 4, 1980, Konra married Ralph C Withers. In December 1980, Konra gave birth to Roy Ralph Withers. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 29, 1989, where the children were sealed to them.
In 1978, Konra began working for the State of Idaho in the Job Service office in Rexburg, where she worked until 1988. She then continued her service-oriented career and moved to the Department of Health and Welfare, primarily serving the disabled and elderly. She worked there until she retired in 2005.
Konra loved her children's activities and was an active participant at their events. Konra lived a life of service and exemplified that as an active member in the LDS church, where she held various callings from Sunday school teacher to Relief Society president, and she always did it with a positive attitude and a smile on her face.
