Laura Graham

Laura Colleen Saurey Graham, 83, of Moody Creek, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at her home.

She was born April 28, 1930, at the family home in Hibbard, Idaho, to Heber Charles Saurey and Sophy Ricks Saurey, the youngest of eight children. Colleen attended elementary school in Hibbard and graduated from Madison High School.

On May 21, 1947, she married W. Dean Graham, of Moody, in Soda Springs, Idaho. They started their married life in Tendoy, Idaho, cattle ranching and farming hay crops. She cooked for large groups of hired men and became known for her delicious meals. They started a family and had four children -- two girls and two boys. Colleen loved to ride horses and help Dean with the livestock, sometimes with a baby tied in a dish towel around her neck and waist.

They had the opportunity to move back to Madison County in 1959 to buy a farm in Moody. Together with her husband, they raised beef cattle, sugar beets, potatoes, grain and hay. Colleen started working outside the home when her children were in school. She was employed by the state of Idaho and worked at the state Youth Services Center in St. Anthony as a supervisor for both the boys' and girls' departments. She worked there for 20 years.

She took many credited classes at Ricks College to advance in her career. She also took many sewing classes, as she loved to sew for her family. Her hobbies were making ceramic dolls and sewing beautiful doll clothes. She was known for her lovely yard, flowers and gardens. She was a member of the Teton First Ward LDS Church.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years; children, Tony (Hidy) Graham of Rigby, Patrice (Bob) Gerrie of Polson, Mont., and James (Jolie) Graham of Moody; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruby Kinney, and a brother, Lyle Saurey, both of St. George, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Deanne Graham; a grandson, Jerimy Graham Hunter; and her siblings, Reed Saurey, Grant Saurey, Ruth Hall, Iola Jeppesen and Darlene Blackburn.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at the Teton LDS First Ward in Teton, Idaho. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Flamm Funeral Home 61 N. First East in Rexburg, and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Teton Newdale Cemetery.
