Lorin Clement Young, 86, of Plano, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, in Idaho Falls surrounded by his family.
He was born Aug. 2, 1927, in Burton to Clement Archer Young and Isabelle McCulloch Young. Lorin attended school in Archer and Edmunds, where he graduated.
It was in the fourth grade at Edmunds where he met his future wife, Ruby. They were best friends through grade school, courted all through high school and were married Nov. 27, 1946, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were inseparable throughout their 64 years of marriage until Ruby's death in 2011.
Lorin loved to watch things grow and spent his life doing what he loved, farming on Egin Bench, growing a beautiful garden, which he loved sharing, and helping raise their six children.
He spent many years serving on the Fremont-Madison Irrigation District and on the Sugar-Salem school board of trustees, where he served as chairman.
He was a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as bishop's counselor twice, bishop, high counselor twice and temple worker. With his wife, Ruby, they served a mission in the Oregon Eugene Mission.
They enjoyed traveling and were able to visit six of the seven continents. He and Ruby were blessed with beautiful voices and shared their talent, singing at funerals and community events over a 25-year period.
He served in the U.S. Army for a short time before World War II ended.
He will be missed by his family and remembered for his wit and humor.
He is survived by his children, Mona (Jeffrey) Walters of Rexburg, LaRae (Brent) Parker of Plano, LuAnn (Scott) Wood of Newdale, Cleve (Kathlene) Young of Rexburg, Layne (Heather) Young of Draper, Utah, and Brian (Marisol) Young of Tracy, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; and 49 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby; two granddaughters; two great-grandsons; a brother; and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Plano LDS church, with Bishop Burt Hensley officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Thursday prior to services at the church.
