Maria Ruiz(1941 - 2014)

Maria de Lourdes Ruiz, 72, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at her daughter's home in Nampa, Idaho.

She was born May 24, 1941, in Brownsville, Texas, to Julian Olvera and Maria Lopez. She grew up in Browns-ville, where she met and married Felix A. Ruiz in 1963. They came to Idaho in 1976, where they raised their seven children.

She worked at French's, Pillsbury and Basic American Foods in Shelley. After her retirement in 2002, they moved to Nampa.

She was a virtuous woman and enjoyed going to church, as well as fellowship with them. Her immediate family was always an important part in her life, and she loved spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In the midst of all her purple, which was her favorite color, she had a green thumb. Her other hobbies include cooking, sewing, crocheting, crafts, listening to Christian music, doing puzzles and playing Sudoku. Most of all, she enjoyed mentoring and guiding her family and always made time to lend an ear.

She was blessed with a precious marriage of more than 50 years, which she treasured with her husband, who never left her side.

She is survived by her husband, Felix of Nampa; children, Felix (Adela) Ruiz Jr. and Ric (Veronica) Ruiz, both of Shelley, Mario Ruiz of Blackfoot, Maria (Robert) Cabello, Shellie (Ernesto) Lopez and Saul Ruiz, all of Nampa, and Josue (Pricilla) Ruiz of Jerome; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brother, Simon Olvera, and sister, Janie Garcia, both of Brownsville, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Daniel J. Ruiz.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Feb. 1, at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W. Oak St. in Shelley. The family will meet with friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Saturday prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
