Millie TeNgaio

Miria "Millie" TeRauhina Rogers TeNgaio, 93, of Idaho Falls, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.

Millie was born March 16, 1920, in Torere, Opotiki, New Zealand, to William Rogers and Kenehia Rewi Rogers. She was the youngest of eight children.

At the tender age of 16, she married Joseph Runga TeNgaio. In the spring of 1938, their marriage was solemnized in the LDS Temple in Laie, Hawaii. They raised two children, Elaine Harata TeNgaio Marsh and Tyrone "Ty" Kingi TeNgaio.

In 1953, Millie and Joe were called on a Labor Mission to help with the building of the Church College of New Zealand and the New Zealand LDS Temple.

When the N.Z. Temple was completed, they were called to serve another mission as Temple Custodians and Ordinance workers. Then in July of 1963, they were called on another LDS mission to Laie, Hawaii. They were the first Directors of the Maori Village at the Polynesian Cultural Center. They remained at the PCC until 1969.

A total of 16 years was spent as LDS Missionaries, serving the Lord, and as Millie said, "I loved every minute of it and would not change it for anything in the world." In April 2003, she moved from Laie, Hawaii, to Idaho Falls, Idaho, to live with her son, Ty, and his wife, Mary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings; a son, William Rogers TeNgaio (died at birth); her husband, Joseph; grandchildren, Minola Marsh, Kenneth Rogers TeNgaio and Miria "Missey" Marsh Killpack; and her daughter-in-law, Mary Jeanne Whittington TeNgaio.

Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Harata Marsh of Dannevirke, New Zealand; son, Ty Kingi TeNgaio of Idaho Falls; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

The family of Millie TeNgaio would like to thank Dr. Teresa Johnson and the nursing staff on the 5th floor at EIRMC for the loving care of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at the LDS 31st Ward, 1165 Azalea Dr. in Idaho Falls. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday before services at the church.
