Norlan Durrant(1935 - 2014)

Norlan Park Hulse Durrant, 78, died Saturday, May 24, 2014, at his home in Rigby, after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

Norlan was born Aug. 26, 1935, at Los Angeles, Calif., a son of Eva Ann Park and Julius George Hulse. His mother passed away after his birth and he went to live with her sister, Leah, in Idaho. He was raised by James Earl Durrant and Leah Agnes Park and later adopted by them.

He graduated from Ririe High School and in 1954 and 1955 attended Ricks College.

On March 30, 1955, he married Janice Marie Hickam Durrant in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He spent his years working as a farmer, as a carpenter and in maintenance for the Ririe School District.

Norlan was a talented man who was fascinated by machinery, loved working with wood, enjoyed the outdoors, serving in his church, reading books, spending time with his family and friends, and relaxing with a nice cold Pepsi. When Norlan took on a project, he didn€™t just finish it, he did his very best quality work. He always said €œa job worth doing is worth doing right€ along with, €œmeasure twice, cut once.€ He loved inventing things or modifying machinery to work better.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Marie Durrant of Rigby; two daughters, Kendra (Tim) Price and Karen Durrant both of Roswell, N.M.; four sons, Dan€™L Durrant of Idaho Falls, Dane Durrant of Rigby, Todd Durrant of Nampa and Jay R. (Camille) Durrant of Rigby; two sisters, Nelda (Steve) Leavitt of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Brenda Bright of Rigby; three brothers, Vernon (Betty) Hulse and Gary Hulse, both of Rigby and Darcel Hulse of Pinedale, Wyo.; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius George Hulse, Eva Ann Park, James Earl Durrant and Leah Agnes Park; two brothers, Julius George Hulse Jr. and Garvin James Durrant; two sisters, Lanona Rae Blakely and Ardith Mae Ritter; and a son, Evan Durrant.

The family would like to thank the many people in their church and community who have shown such love and support during this hard time. For alone we are weak, but together we are strong.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday May 30, in the Ririe Stake Center. The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Friday before services, both at the church. Burial will be in Ririe-Shelton Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
