Norma Jean Garner, 80, of Idaho Falls, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family. She was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho.
Norma was born May 19, 1933, in Weston, Idaho, to Albert Lorenzo Schwartz and Melva Schvaneveldt Schwartz. She grew up and attended schools in Mud Lake and graduated from high school in Roberts, Idaho.
On June 9, 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, the love of her life, Ronald Leo "Hank" Garner, in Terreton, Idaho. To this union were born eight children. Norma and Hank made their home in Roberts and surrounding areas before moving to Idaho Falls, where they have lived since. Hank passed away March 23, 1998.
Norma helped her husband on the farm and was a waitress for 32 years at the Stardust in Idaho Falls.
She enjoyed couponing, going to garage sales, quilting, gardening, gambling, making famous hand-dipped chocolates and cooking, but most of all, she loved taking care of her family.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Ronda (Bart) Bateson of Idaho Falls; son, Dale (Kathy) Garner of Idaho Falls; son, Eddie Garner of Idaho Falls; daughter, Peggy (Alan) Mondada of Boise; daughter, Lori (Daniel) Seargeant of Huntington Beach, Calif.; daughter, Judy (Dave) Truempler of Pocatello; son, Dex Covert of Idaho Falls; daughter-in-law, Judy Garner of Idaho Falls; sister, Marie (Tony) Staley of Dillon, Mont.; sister, Bonnie (Lindsay) Hatch of Driggs; sister, Faye (Evan) Morgan of Rigby; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ronald "Hank" Garner; sons, Denny and James Garner; brothers, LeGrande and Leon Schwartz; sisters, Carol Shenton and Mary Lou Schwartz; and granddaughter, Jennifer Garner.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 11, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave., with her nephew, Gary Shenton, officiating. The family visited with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and also will visit with friends from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. today prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
