Priscilla Draper

Priscilla Brewster Lane Draper passed away in Rigby on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013.

Priscilla was born Aug. 3, 1923, in Spokane, Wash., to Merton and Marion Lane. She grew up in Walla Walla, Wash., attending St. Paul's School for Girls, and Whitman College getting her B.A. in history from Chapman College and master's in education from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

She taught school 22 years for the Lompoc Unified School District in Lompoc, Calif., substituting for another 10 years when not traveling. She loved to travel and lived in many different areas of the U.S. due to the Air Force career of her husband, James.

Priscilla is survived by five children, James of Carrizozo, N.M., Barbara Cappelli of Carrizozo, N.M., JoAnn Hansen of Denver, Sharon Dossett of Rigby and Robert of Ventura, Calif. She also had seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Priscilla was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 11, the Coastal Alumnus Club of Alpha Chi Omega, past regent of Rancho Purisima Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution, president and director of Colonial Dames District VI of Seventeenth Century, Judge John Pike Chapter, La Rochelle Chapter of Hugenot Society, former governor Santa Barbara Colony of Mayflower Society, Women Descendents of Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, National Society of Magna Carta Dames, life member of National Education Association, and California Teachers Association.

In addition to the dedicated support Priscilla provided to the organizations above, she loved teaching and continued, even into retirement, as a volunteer literacy tutor for adults at the Lompoc Library. She also volunteered as a DAR appointee to the Veterans Voluntary Services and worked at the Santa Barbara Veterans Medical clinic at least two days per week for 15 years.

Due to Mrs. Draper's wishes, there will be no memorial services.

Donations may be made in her name to the Daughters of the American Revolution Schools sent to Rancho Purisima Chapter, DAR, 4482 Libra Drive, Lompoc, CA 93436.
