Richard Brian Luckau, known to family and friends as Brian, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, near Portales, N.M., as the result of a traffic accident.
He was born July 12, 1978, in Bountiful, Utah, to Richard and Carolyn Luckau. Brian's early years were spent in West Jordan, Utah. His family moved to Idaho Falls in October 1989. Brian graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1997.
He married Shaleena Bruderer on Sept. 17, 1997. Brian worked in Idaho Falls until 2008, when he and his family moved to Longmont, Colo., to work at a children's home. In 2009, he moved to Portales, N.M., where he and his wife became house parents at the New Mexico Christian Children's Home.
Brian was a member of the Church of Christ. He was known for his great sense of humor and being able to make people laugh. His wife said he just enjoyed being "generally weird." He enjoyed going to movies, playing golf and traveling. His greatest joys were found in spending time with his family. He loved to serve and always would do what he could to make everyone's load lighter.
