Vernal Dean Cook, 64, of Idaho Falls, passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center after a lingering ill-ness.
Vern was born June 23, 1948, in Idaho Falls, to Vernal K. Cook and Eva Catherine Gray Cook. He attended school in Las Plumas High School in Oroville, Calif. Vernal worked as a firefighter for the Forest Service in California and in construction. Vern served in the Army during the Vietnam War.
He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Vernal is survived by his soul mate, Janae David; daughters, Carol Haeckel of Fremont, Calif., and Laura George of Oroville, Calif.; sons, Daniel Cook of Idaho Falls, Michael Smart of Elk Grove, Calif., and Jason Smart of Citrus Heights, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters, Beverly Salinas of Bandon, Ore.; Susan Webber-Brown of Oroville, Calif., and Bonnie Brent of Sacramento, Calif.
He was preceded in death by father, Vernal K. Cook, and mother, Eva Griemsman.
Graveside services will be at noon Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Rose Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Honor Guard.
