Betty Jean Lake Kiesling, 83, a longtime resident of Pocatello, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in Rigby with her daughters by her side.
She was born Aug. 19, 1928, in Idaho Falls to Otense and John Lake. She was the youngest of nine children. When she was 7 years old, she moved to Lava Hot Springs with her family. She had a happy childhood growing up in Lava with loving brothers and sisters. She attended all of her schooling there.
On Sept. 7, 1946, she married Roy Lynn Kiesling. They had four children, Connie, Marsha, Kenneth and Sandy. Her family was the center and joy of her life.
She worked for many years as a waitress and cook at the Silver Grill Caf in Lava, and then in Pocatello at the Champ Caf, Newberry's and Tough Guy Bowling Alley.
Betty loved her church service in the 2nd Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved serving as a visiting teacher, and during her life served as Relief Society president and secretary, Cub Scout and Achievement Day leader and a Primary teacher. She coordinated the baptism clothes and loved going to the temple.
She shared with many people her interests and talents, including decorating cakes, making gingerbread houses, scrapbooking, bowling, line dancing, and making and sharing her delicious pies. She loved to travel and she enjoyed the outdoors.
Betty is survived by two daughters, Connie (David) Pincock of Rigby and Sandy (Mike) Merrill of Idaho Falls; one older brother, Melvin (Donna) Lake of Idaho Falls; 15 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Doug Wood of Idaho Falls; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Kiesling of Pocatello.
