Allen Rey Butikofer, 85, of Coltman, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at his home.
Allen was born July 19, 1928, in Coltman, Idaho, to Rudolph Arnold Butikofer and Bertha Lucile Linck Butikofer. He grew up and attended school in Coltman and graduated from Ucon High School. He was a lifelong resident of the Coltman area.
On June 2, 1948, he married Lorna Mae Wadsworth in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union were born nine children: Eugene, Connie, Keith, Patricia, Susan, Janice, Jolene, Jeffrey and Kelly.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Allen served four missions with his wife to Canada-Regina, Vermont, the Bishop's Storehouse and the Idaho Falls Temple. He also served as Elders Quorum president, High Priest group leader and instructor, as one of the seven presidents of the Seventy in the Idaho Falls East Stake and as a Primary teacher. Allen was a man who loved God, family, farming, woodworking and gardening. He believed in and taught the importance of a hard day's work.
Allen is survived by his sons, Eugene (Evelyn) Butikofer, Keith Butikofer and Jeff (Paige) Butikofer, all of Idaho Falls, and Kelly Butikofer of Salt Lake City; daughters, Connie (Wayne) Gray of Shelley, Patricia Butikofer of Yelm, Wash., Susan (Brad) Anselmo of Nampa, Idaho, Janice (Winston) Petersen of Pleasant Grove, Utah, and Jolene (Dave) Blakely of Rigby; brothers, Merrill Butikofer, Preston Butikofer and Eldred (Florine) Butikofer, all of Idaho Falls, Howard Butikofer of Mesa, Ariz., and Reed Butikofer of Menan; sister, Maurine May of Portland, Ore.; sisters-in-law, Anita Butikofer and Phyllis Butikofer; 36 grandchildren; and 66 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorna, who passed away Oct. 28, 2011; a sister, Gladys Treffry; brothers, Maurice and John Butikofer; a grandson, Trent Butikofer; and a great-granddaughter, Gracy Wright.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Idaho Falls LDS Coltman 2nd Ward, 12448 N. Fifth East, with Bishop Dennis Love officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave., and from noon to 12:45 p.m. Saturday prior to services at the church. Burial will be next to his eternal companion, Lorna, in Grant-Central Cemetery.
