Artell Mugleston

1929 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
Artell Mugleston Obituary

Artell Samuel Mugleston, 84, of Rigby, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loved ones following a courageous battle with cancer.

Artell was born April 22, 1929, in Garfield, Idaho, to Arthur and Clara Urech Mugleston. He was raised in Rigby and graduated from Rigby High School.

On Feb. 21, 1952, he married the love of his life, Norma Jean Simmons, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were blessed with five sons.

Artell was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various church callings. He served several years at Ricks College as a High Councilman and in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

Artell owned and operated the Lorenzo Mercantile until Highway 20 expanded; he then opened Artell's Appliance in Rigby for 15 years. Real estate became an interest in his life, where he pursued work with Valley Properties until his retirement.

One of Artell's most admired attributes was his sense of humor and great personality that brought smiles to many. Artell's greatest joy was spending quality time with his family, camping and especially taking pride in his garden.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Norma Jean; sons, Kirt A. (Susan Bowcutt) Mugleston of Rigby, Bryon E. (Barbara Taylor) Mugleston of Rigby, David S. (Tracy Hooper) Mugleston of Syracuse, Utah, Randy Gene (Mysti Stay) Mugleston of Little Falls, N.J., and Eric Wade (Jill Radford) Mugleston of Rigby; 23 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Larry (Alta) Simmons; and sisters-in-law, Belva Mugleston and Darlene Wilde.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; an older brother, Dwaine; a grandson, Adam Mugleston; and an infant granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Lorenzo and Rigby 4th Ward LDS church (Red Brick Church), 401 W. First South in Rigby. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main St. in Rigby, and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Rigby Pioneer Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.

Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.eckersellfuneralhome.com.
