Daniel Whitaker, 57, of Shelley, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center from natural causes.
He was born Nov. 2, 1955, in Rigby to Bartlett Cordon Whitaker and Ada Afton (Nebeker, Whitaker) Christensen. He attended school in Shelley and graduated from Shelley High School in 1976.
He joined the U.S. Army following high school and served four years in Texas. He attended Vo-Tech School and studied diesel mechanics. He worked for Bud Rodgers Pallets, Club Bar, Steel Systems and G.P.O.D. of Idaho, where he's been a dedicated, loyal employee for many years and was never afraid to put in a hard day's work.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, weapon shooting, leather work and was a rock hound. He also enjoyed working on vehicles, working in the garden and was always willing to lend a helpful hand to others and will be missed by many.
He is survived by his siblings, Reita Imeson of Shelley, Bart Whitaker of Idaho Falls, Bill Christensen of Idaho Falls, Becky (Stacy) Freeman of Idaho Falls, Dennis (Bethany) Christensen of Meridian, Afton (Troy) Coles of Idaho Falls and Wesley (Quinn) Christensen of Boise; stepsiblings, Beth Jane Carson of Shelley, Roger (Janie) Christensen of Idaho Falls and Shirley (Klaus) Kunkel of Utah; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bartlett Whitaker and Ada (Whitaker) Christensen; stepfather, Dennis Christensen; and his grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W. Oak St. in Shelley, with Bishop Trent Dye conducting. The family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery with military rites by the David B. Bleak Post 93 of Shelley.
