David B. Braithwaite Obituary

David B. Braithwaite, 75, of Idaho Falls, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at his home. He was under the care of OneSource Hospice.

David was born July 27, 1937, in Ogden, Utah, to Robert Hillard Braithwaite and Ella Barnes Braithwaite. He grew up in Arco, Idaho, and graduated from Butte High School.

He received a bachelor's degree from Utah State University.

David married Carol Katherine Frongner on Aug. 8, 1961, in Elko, Nev. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in 1962. They were the parents of eight children.

David served in the Army 82nd Airborne. In 1966, he began working as an electrical engineer at the INL site until retiring in 2001.

David was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. David served a two-year mission in the Great Lakes Mission and served a 19-month mission with his wife in the Nevada Las Vegas West Mission. He served as a counselor in the bishopric, a temple ordinance worker and as a Scoutmaster. He served in Scouting for 30 years. David was awarded the Silver Beaver and received a District Award of Merit from the Boy Scouts of America. His hobbies included playing the piano, hunting, fishing, gardening and Scouting. His favorite activity was spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Carol K. Braithwaite of Idaho Falls; sons, John Devin (Johnna) Braithwaite of Ammon, Kirk F. (Stephanie) Braithwaite, Boone F. (Sindy) Braithwaite and Dustin F. (Jessica) Braithwaite, all of Idaho Falls, Brian Hillard (Cindy) Braithwaite of Iona and Alan David (Pamela) Braithwaite of Nampa; daughter, Krista Lyn (Nick) Haley of Boise; 33 grandchildren, four adopted; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Brent Hillard (Ida) Braithwaite of Lacey, Wash.; and sisters, Sharon Knight of Roy, Utah, Kay Braithwaite of Boise and Gayle (R. Mark) Smith of Rigby.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Lynn Braithwaite; a sister, Nedra; and a brother, Doyle Braithwaite.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Idaho Falls LDS church building at 2545 Mesa St. The family will meet with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. Burial will be in Iona Cemetery.
