Dorothy LaJean Robinson Hansen, 78, of Blackfoot, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013, in Shelley. She had just recently moved to the Gables of Shelley, and, on her final journey, she had the help of the amazing ladies at the Gables, her angel hospice nurse, Kara Yancey and her loving family.
Dorothy (Dot) was born Sept. 16, 1934, in Ashton, Idaho, to Ellis and Edith Yorgensen Robinson. Dot spent her childhood in the Shelley-Firth area and lived in many different homes in that area. She graduated from Shelley High School in 1952.
Shortly after, Dot met a tall, dark and handsome man from Blackfoot who soon became her whole life. She married Wayne Hansen on May 29, 1954, in Blackfoot. They made their home in Blackfoot and spent over 50 years living on West Center Street.
Besides being a mother to Sharon, Doug, Dee and Marielle, she worked in local restaurants as a waitress, including Stan's, Wagon Wheel and Betty's. She was such a strong woman-mowing and irrigating their large yard every week by herself because no one else could get her lawn the way she liked it.
Fishing and camping were favorite pastimes for her and Wayne. They spent a lot of time in Warm River when the kids were young, and later she loved to go to Chesterfield, Mackay and steelheading on the Salmon River. When failing health required Wayne and Dot to give up fishing, they found a new favorite pastime of going to the casino in Fort Hall. Dot especially loved having her family around her. She was always so proud of her kids and grandkids.
Dot is survived by her children, Sharon (Brent) Hanson of Kuna and Maricopa, Ariz., Doug of Rockford, Dee (Lea Findlay) of Rockford and Marielle (Don) Pratt of Blackfoot; grandchildren, Marcee (Frank) Winkles, Angela (Larry) Neddo, Brent (Angela) Hansen, Josh (Candace) Hansen, Michelle (Brad) Anderson, Matt Hansen, J.D. (Rene Castro) Hansen, Zak Hansen, Tiffany (Darren) Beck, Tyson (Jessica) Pratt, Eric (Erika Ford) Pratt and Lindsay Pratt; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Guy Robinson of Basalt, Calvin (Janice) Robinson of Basalt, Jack (Gaila) Robinson of Shelley and Jay (Vickie) Robinson of Blackfoot; sisters, Karan (Gary) Fallis of Pocatello and Shirley Hansen of Shelley; sister-in-law, Millie (Bill) Dye of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her very much.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; parents, Ellis and Edith Robinson; brother, Bud Robinson; daughter-in-law, Shanice Hansen; and great-grandson, Grant Neddo.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave. in Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at Hawker Funeral Home and Friday for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Springfield Cemetery.
