Earlene Campbell

1924 - 2014 Obituary Condolences

Earlene Isom Campbell, 89, of Idaho Falls, quietly passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014, at home in the care of her loving family.

Earlene was born in Hurricane, Utah, on Sept. 26, 1924, to Andrew N. Isom and Jacosa D. Burke. Her family moved to the Osgood area when Earlene was 2 years old, where she grew up and attended school.

After graduating from Idaho Falls High School, Earlene joined the Marine Corps and served asa corporal from 1944 to 1946, during World War II.

Earlene returned home to Idaho Falls after serving in the military. She worked in many food service areas over the years, including running her own café for a few years; it was the Turf Café and was located in the downtown Idaho Falls area. In her later years, she worked as a chef and baker for Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, from which she retired.

Earlene has always been a great cook and baker. She enjoyed making candies, cakes, cookies and anything else she could make, and then she would share her wonderful creations with others and her family -- but her greatest joy came from serving in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple for many years. Earlene's talents also included sewing, canning and gardening. Earlene always had a warm hug and smile for everyone she met.

Earlene married Ray Albert Campbell on April 29, 1958, and on Dec. 17, 1966, they solemnized their marriage for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together they served a 12-month LDS mission from 1991 to 1992 at the Idaho Falls Bishops' Store House. Earlene has served in many areas of the church, but her favorite was serving in the library.

Earlene is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Albert Campbell, her parents and several siblings.

She is survived by her children, Carole Jo (Terry) Dutton, Dianna Lynn (Brent) Russell, Sandra Dee Knoelk and Ray A. Campbell Jr., all of Idaho Falls, Michael Craig (Sharon) Campbell of Burley, Idaho, and Elana Rae (Ralph) Garcia of Ventura, Calif. Her legacy includes 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at the Coltman LDS church house on the Lewisville Highway, 12448 N. Fifth East. The family will visit with friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 18, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave., and Saturday for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Ammon Cemetery following the service. Military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.

The family would like to thank the Access Hospice group for the loving manner in which they helped serve their mother.

Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
