Florence Irene Allen Obituary

Florence Irene Allen, 94, of Terreton, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at her home. She was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice.

She was born April 10, 1917, in Raymond, Neb., to Frank Alonso Shafer and Bertha Louisa Burkey. She was raised and attended schools in Raymond and Emerald, Neb., and graduated from Teacher's College High School in Lincoln, Neb. She moved with her parents to Mud Lake in 1936.

On Oct. 15, 1937, she married Cecil Calkins Allen in Shelley, Idaho. She and her husband farmed in Terreton and Mud Lake. She worked at the INEL for 10 years, and was a co-owner of Allen's Greenhouse in Terreton.

Florence was a member of the Methodist Church, and was one of the founders of the West Jefferson Senior Citizens Center, where she served as secretary for 15 years. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and rock polishing.

She is survived by her daughters, Carol Ann (Bob) Engel and Patricia Gwen (Lynn) Jackman, both of Pocatello; son, Robert M. Allen of Terreton; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main St. in Rigby, with Bishop Steven Allen conducting. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
