George Gruver Obituary

George Leroy Gruver, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at his home. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.

George was born Jan. 31, 1930, in Mechanicsburg, Pa., to Harry Gruver and Ethel May Forney. He grew up and attended school in Pennsylvania.

On Sept. 13, 1952, he married Estella Gonzalez in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Together they raised their eight children. George and Estella spent the last 57 years in Idaho Falls.

He served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1959 and received his honorable discharge.

George worked in the concrete business for Burns Brothers and was a member of the Teamsters Union. He also worked as a mechanic for Taylor Farms.

He was a member of the Catholic Church and also a member of the Eagles. George enjoyed hunting, fishing, family activities, motorcycles and model airplanes. He was an excellent craftsman and enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Estella Gruver of Idaho Falls; sons, George L. (Alicia) Gruver Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas, James L. (Delynn) Gruver of Lake Forest, Calif., Jerry L. (Kim) Gruver of Ammon, Gary L. (Barbara) Gruver of Ririe, Gene L. Gruver of Phoenix and Glen L. (Ronda) Gruver of Ammon; daughters, E. Loretta (Dennis) Kauer of Rigby and E. Laura (Mike) Garcia of Idaho Falls; sister, Martha Gladden of California; 31 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, on the corner of Ninth Street and Lee Avenue. The family will visit with friends from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
