Georgia Alene Skeen Obituary

Georgia Alene Skeen, 90, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013, in Challis, Idaho.

Georgia Alene (Osborn) Skeen was born July 9, 1922, in Benkelman, Neb., the daughter of Jesse Earl Osborn and Mary Alice Steward. They made their home in Nebraska with brother, William B. Osborn, and sister, Clearcie Hice. At the age of 12, the family moved to Idaho.

She married Alfred R. Skeen on Dec. 14, 1938, at Challis. She lived 76 years in Challis. She was the natural mother of four children, and many others who needed mothering.

She was a Sunday school teacher, 4-H leader and Cub Scout den mother. She joined the Silver Leaf Rebekah Lodge 27 and went through the offices twice, receiving a 50-year pin. She helped start the Rebekah's Memorial Scholarship Fund, of which four of her grandchildren were recipients. She helped start the Senior Class Luncheon in 1959. She and the other Rebekahs began selling cinnamons rolls at the Rod and Gun Shoot several years ago, and will be missed by the members. She was also a member of the Community Church U.C.C.

She raised a big garden and shared with everyone. She also grew beautiful flowers, inside and out, that she loved caring for. She attended all of her children's and grandchildren's basketball, football and track events. She had spent many hours sitting on the bleachers. She loved camping in an old school bus with Alfred. The couple would travel to Arizona for the winter, only after the basketball season was finished.

She is survived by sons, Mel Skeen of Salmon, Idaho, and Dale (Karen) Skeen and Earl (Mary) Skeen, all of Challis; daughter, Hazel Crane of Challis; 13 grandchildren, Todd Skeen, Angie Skeen and Carrie (Mike) Shippy, all of Salmon, Bret Ward of Twin Falls, Idaho, Dodie Waitzig of Salmon, Alfred Crane of Boise, Rob (Cindy) Crane of Challis, Patty Sensabaugh of Challis, Kelli Skeen of Mesa, Ariz., Jennifer (Jessie Robinson) Skeen and Mary Skeen, both of San Diego, Richard (Celina) Skeen of San Antonio and Becky (Justin) Mitchell of Stanley, Idaho; 33 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Vivian Skeen of Wasilla, Alaska.

She was preceded in death by husband, Alfred of 61 years; brother, Bill Osborn; sister, Clearcie Hice; grandson, Ben Crane; son-in-law, Earl Crane; and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Easter.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at the Community Church U.C.C. in Challis, with burial in Challis Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements by Jones and Casey Funeral Home of Challis, Idaho.
