Gladys Pettingill Obituary

Gladys Brower Pettingill, 92, of Idaho Falls, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at Lily & Syringa Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls of causes incident to age. She was under the care of her family and Hands of Hope Hospice.

Gladys was born Oct. 31, 1919, in Rexburg to Frank Brower and Hazel Smith. She grew up in Teton Basin and attended area schools there. She earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education at Ricks College. She taught school at LaBelle until after her marriage.

On Sept. 26, 1939, she married Ray L. Pettingill in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. They had four children: Jerry, Linda, Julie and Calie. Gladys was a wonderful wife, homemaker and very special mother to her four children. Ray passed away May 14, 1998.

A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as ward Relief Society president and in various other capacities over the years. Gladys was an avid bowler, and she made many close friends through her bowling leagues.

Gladys is survived by her daughters, Linda Green of Salt Lake City and Julie (Lon) Severson and Calie (Bill) Adamson, both of Idaho Falls; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Larry Brower; her husband, Ray; her son, Jerry; and son-in-law, John B. Green.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave. The family will visit with friends from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be next to Ray in Rose Hill Cemetery.
