Helen Florence Leatham Obituary

Helen Florence Leatham, 82, of Blackfoot, passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at The Good Samaritan in Idaho Falls.

She was born June 9, 1930, in Idaho Falls, the daughter of George Gee McGavin and Hazel Jannette Tanner.

Helen graduated from Idaho Falls High School.

On July 27, 1949, she married Lamar Leatham in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. After she was married, she lived in Shelley, then Idaho Falls and Pocatello. She spent the last few years living with her daughter, Lorie, in Blackfoot.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served as Relief Society president, Primary president and Young Women president. She also served as a temple worker in the Idaho Falls Temple for nine years.

Helen worked as a bookkeeper for a CPA office. Her greatest joy, however, came from being a homemaker and mother. She loved her family and the time she spent with them, particularly camping.

She was a beautiful seamstress and she and Lamar built several pieces of beautiful furniture and crafts in their wood shop together. She had many fond memories as a child and raising her family. She always had a loving smile and looked out for everyone around her.

She is survived by her daughters, Lorette "Lorie" (Don) Anderson of Blackfoot and Joanne (Tracy) Hawes of Pleasant View, Utah; sisters, Clara Stacey of Idaho Falls and Verla Randall-Muller of Rigby; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Wilford, Glen and Orvin McGavin; and sister, Wanda Shurtliff.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Riverton LDS Chapel, with Bishop Kelley Hurst conducting. The family will meet with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave. in Blackfoot, and Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.

Condolences may be sent to the family at condol ences@hawkerfuneral home.com.
