James Owen Obituary

James Ivan Owen, 93, of Idaho Falls, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at Life Care Center of Idaho Falls.

He was born May 29, 1919, in Idaho Falls to Horace Edward Owen and Inez Jane Van Eps. James lived his entire life in Idaho Falls, except for three years of service during World War II.

He lived his early years during the Great Depression and helped keep the family going through many jobs and moneymaking activities like trapping and selling newspapers. His parents and siblings moved to California leaving the elder sons, James, Edward and Darell, in Idaho Falls.

On Dec. 21, 1948, he married Vera Joyce Morgan in Idaho Falls. James began his baking career at the Swedish Bakery, where the KeyBank on Capital and Broadway is currently located. He served as a mess sergeant in the Army. He worked as a baker and bakery manager for Albertsons for over 30 years and retired in 1981.

James was an outdoorsman, a hunter, woodcutter and hard-core fisherman, who probably pulled more fish out of eastern Idaho streams than nearly anyone else.

Survivors are his wife, Joyce Owen of Idaho Falls; three sons, Steven James Owen of Pflugerville, Texas, Edward Eugene Owen of Nashua, N.H., and Wesley Lynn Owen of Idaho Falls; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Rose Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
