Jerry Don Burtenshaw, 81, of Rigby, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014, in Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Jerry was born Feb. 5, 1933, in Shelton, Idaho, to John Harris and Lottie Marie Burtenshaw. He grew up and attended Shelton Buck and graduated from Rigby High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955.
On Nov. 14, 1958, he married Karen Ellis in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Later he worked at the INEL site for 40 years and retired in 1995. He served as a counselor in the Clark Ward bishopric and on the High Council for the Ririe Stake.
Jerry raised horses and cattle and farmed on the side. He enjoyed training, riding and buying horses and mules. He also enjoyed old tractors and antiques. He was always looking for a good deal or a good trade. You could always find him in "his" favorite chair watching a good ballgame or show on TV.
His grandkids and his kids were his life and they adored him. In his retirement years, Jerry and his family spent many wonderful times at their family cabin at Last Chance in Island Park.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Karen Burtenshaw; son, Mickey Dean (Patsy) Burtenshaw of Rigby; four daughters, Lori (Randy) Drake of Lewisville, Jan (Rod) Furniss, Jodi (Richard) Howard and Mitzi (Syd) Cordingley, all of Rigby; sister, Doris (Bob) Cox of Rigby; brother, Duane (Enid) Burtenshaw of Idaho Falls; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Marie Schultz, Beth Cooper and JoAnn Scholes.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at the Clark Rudy Ward, 198 N. 4300 East in Rigby. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Thursday prior to services at the church. Burial will be at Annis-Little Butte Cemetery.
