Joyce Bailey, 78, passed away in Idaho Falls on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013.
Joyce was born Oct. 14, 1934, in Colby, Wis., to Alvin and Theresa Foster. She was the youngest of 17 children.
She met the love of her life, Lloyd Bailey, while singing "Danny Boy" at a local pub. He was heard to say, "That's the girl I'm going to marry," and they were married Feb. 27, 1952. They enjoyed 40 wonderful years together and raised six children.
Joyce was an active member of the Catholic Church and spent many years teaching catechism and enthusiastically guiding young children through First Communion.
Joyce took pleasure in the outdoors and spent endless hours gardening, for which she won the Green Thumb award on several occasions. She also enjoyed camping and rides in the mountains.
Joyce could often be found spoiling her two cherished cats, Seal and Nettie. She was a Green Bay Packers fanatic and rarely missed a game. Above all else, Joyce loved her family. She delighted in spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joyce's love and generosity toward her family and others was unparalleled. This was evident in her determination to overcome her own trials and to help others succeed in their recovery by devoting years of her life to SWARA. She continued this commitment to helping others while working at the Wyoming State Hospital until her retirement.
Joyce is survived by a sister, Jane Walsh of Michigan; daughters, Colleen (Larry) Schoengarth of Fort Bridger, Wyo., Peggy Akin of Blackfoot, Kitty (Preston) Vercimak of Lyman, Wyo., Mary Bailey of Evanston, Wyo., and Karen Bailey (John Orose) of Idaho Falls; son, John Bailey of Evanston, Wyo.; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Theresa Foster; her husband, Lloyd; 13 brothers; and two sisters.
