Marylin Echo Barnes Obituary

Marylin Echo Fife Barnes, 79, of Idaho Falls, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Lily and Syringa Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls, following a stroke.

She was born May 8, 1933, to John Guy Fife and Eleanor Melrie Dalling in Sugar City. She was the oldest of five children. She grew up traveling with her family through many cities in Idaho including Sugar City, Rigby, Leadore, Sandpoint, Salmon and Blackfoot. She attended Salmon High School before moving to Blackfoot.

She met Leonard Barnes at a dance in Blackfoot. They were married Aug. 30, 1957, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They made their home in Milo, where she came home to two children, Evelyn, 5, and Stanley, 4. The couple later had two more children, Sheila and Larry.

She cared for her son, Larry, lovingly for 17 years, as he suffered with muscular dystrophy. She was a great mother and a wonderful grammies. She was a homemaker and kept a clean, well-running home. Her hobbies were reading, gardening and making her coveted rag rugs.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Primary and was a visiting teacher. She enjoyed doing temple work and genealogy.

Marylin is survived by son, Stanley (Jill) Barnes of Milo; daughters, Evelyn Barnes of Milo and Sheila (Gary) Harris of Ammon; brother, Dale (Ruth) Fife; sisters, Betty (David) Tanner of Blackfoot and Carol (Ralph) Grimmett, of Idaho City; 10 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Barnes; son, Larry Barnes; her parents; and a sister, Linda Fife Pehrson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at the Milo LDS Church, 12127 N. 75th East. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Ririe-Shelton Cemetery under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
