Steven Douglas Balster, 54, of Roberts, Idaho, passed on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at his home surrounded by family and friends.
He was born Dec. 17, 1958, in Slayton, Minn., to Franklin Milton Balster and Darlene Margaret Wagner Balster. He was raised and attended OLOGC Catholic School in Wilmot, Minn., and graduated from high school in Worthington, Minn. He continued his education at Worthington Community College in Worthington, Minn., and Huron College in South Dakota, graduating with a bachelor's degree in agriculture business.
On July 25, 1981, he married Carrie Lynn Briggs; they had one daughter and two sons.
On April 16, 2000, he married Candace Jane Robison in Roberts, and gained one daughter and two sons.
Steven worked for Anheuser Busch as director of U.S. Barley Operations and served as industry representative for the Idaho Barley Commission.
Steven was a member of Roberts Community Church. He was also a member of the Snake River Team Roping Association, USTRC & Wrangler Roping Association, The AQHA Team Penning Association, The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Ducks Unlimited. He also supported the High School Rodeo Association.
He is survived by his mother, Darlene Balster, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; wife, Candace Balster of Roberts; daughters, Jessica Marie Balster of Denver, Colo., and Megan (Skip) Morton of Menan; sons, Aaron (Kistin) Balster of Roberts, Kyle (Sarah) Balster of Plant City, Fla., and Travis Lufkin of Roberts; sister, Sharon (John) Krogstad of Granite Falls, Minn., Cathy (Ron) Bruns of Castle Rock, Colo., Laurie (Steven) Wieneke of Lismore, Minn., and Linda (Keith) Sorenson of Granite Falls, Minn.; brother, Jeff (Connie) Balster of Sheldon, Iowa, Mark (Julie) Balster of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Michael (Melinda) Balster of Worthington, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his father, Franklin "Red" Balster; and a son, Mac Lufkin.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at Roberts Community Center, with Pastor Steve Molsee officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday prior to services, both at the community center. Burial will be in Market Lake Cemetery in Roberts. Services are under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
